WorldPeace: Use gambling to fund education
The following was sent to the Dallas Morning News regarding gambling on the Indian Reservations. I have always advocated gambling on the Indian Reservations as a means of funding education as well as helping raise the standard of living for Native Americans.
The citizens of Texas and America committed genocide against the Indian Nations and it is time for Texans to acknowledge that fact. I do not believe in reparations for our past atrocities but I also do not believe in the continued subordination of Native Americans. It is time to live up to our Constitutional ideals of equality and justice for all; without exception.
To date, Sanchez and Morales have issued no opinion on this matter as they have not given an opinion on virtually anything. I am curious to see how much of my agenda they adopt.

Responses to Dallas Morning News regarding gambling on Indian Reservations
1. Should the Tiguas be allowed to continue operating their casino in El Paso?
Yes, if the state monies are earmarked for education.
2. Would you favor legislation allowing the Tiquas and the state's two other nationally recognized Indian tribes to conduct casino gambling on their lands?
Yes. This has been part of my agenda ever since John Cornyn tried to shut down the casino.
3. Would you favor legislation allowing private companies to offer Las Vegas - style gambling in Texas?
No. Not at this time. I would wait to see how the Indian casinos worked out.
4. A bill likely will be offered next session to legalize video lottery, video poker or some other kind of electronic gambling at the state's pari-mutual horse and dog race tracks. Would you support any such legislation?
Only if the state's share of the profits were earmarked for education.
5. There has been some talk about expanding the games offered by the Texas Lottery to include video lottery. Would you support that effort?
Only if the state's share of the profits were earmarked for education.
ALSO FOR THE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATES ONLY:
If a bill is passed legalizing gambling on Indian lands, would you veto it, sign it or allow it to become law without your signature?
ANSWER: I would sign it if the state's share of the monies were allocated for education. I would veto it and make sure it did not pass if the funds were not so earmarked.
