China cautions UN against North Korea action
China has warned against the United Nations Security Council's involvement in
the North Korean nuclear crisis, insisting the only solution is direct dialogue
between Washington and Pyongyang.
China's ambassador to the UN in Vienna, Zhang Yan, has cautioned that pressure
and sanctions may exacerbate the confrontation and further complicate the issue.
He has asked the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, to
take a cautious and prudent attitude.
The comments follow a declaration by the IAEA that North Korea is in breach of
UN safeguards. It has referred the crisis to the UN Security Council, which
could consider imposing sanctions.
China's foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan will attend the Security Council meeting
on Iraq on Friday to outline China's position on the crisis.
Mr Tang will urge the Iraq issue be settled within the UN framework through
political means.
How can we manifest peace on
earth if we do not include everyone (all races, all nations, all religions, both
sexes) in our vision of Peace?
